Programs and Events

Spectrum hosts various programs and events throughout the year. Below, three of our major events are highlighted. Take a look and if you want to get involved with anything we do, contact us to get more information!

Gender Bending
Talent Show

The Gender Bending Talent Show is an annual fundraiser for Spectrum. Each Fall semester, the organization reaches out to anyone interested in showcasing their talents to UNC Charlotte's campus

Performances range from spoken word to singing and dancing, and even performances in drag. Performers compete for a cash prize

The show not only benefits the organization, but it also brings a cultural diversity aspect to campus. For some, it can be their first time seeing drag or hearing about the organization, and having this show gives us the opportunity to educate those in attendance.

Scarlet Fever

Scarlet Fever is Spectrum's annual variety show to raise money for AIDS Walk Charlotte each spring. For several years, we have been one of the top fundraisers for the walk. In 2014, Spectrum decided to expand the show as we welcomed Shangela from RuPaul's Drag Race to the line-up.

Performers volunteer to perform in acts such as singing and dancing, and even performances in drag

This is not only a fundraiser for the Charlotte Community, but also a way to help educate those in attendance about HIV/AIDS as well as different aspects of the LGBT culture not only on campus, but in the greater Charlotte community as well.

Real Sex

In 2013, Spectrum teamed up with various organizations on campus to bring what is the first of many lecture and panel style programs. In Real Sex, a panel came together to talk about what it meant to be part of the LGBTQIA community.

Through Real Sex, Spectrum welcomed school officials, Charlotte community members, and students from all walks of life. We were able to discuss what it meant to be part of the particualr culture they represented.

Spectrum has used this program to start hosting a string of annual educational programs focusing on different topics from year to year.

"I am so thankful to have been apart of Spectrum! This organization gave me the courage to come out! It's also how I got my start in drag! I hope that all UNCC students both LGBTQ and there allys feel as supported as I did by this organization!"
